R.I.P. Anime Reviews ‘05-’09

Wednesday, March 4th, 2009

Hello everyone,

I’ve made it final: As of March 4th, 2009, the website Anime Reviews will cease to exist.

A lot of things have contributed to the unevitable demise of the website - a lack of interest from the public, slow updating and just the pure lack of time on my part. I wanted to see the website grow more and develop into something we can all proudly call a Community, but due to nothing even remotely close to this happening, I think it’s about time to call it quits. Sure, the Internet is chocked full of review websites, for general material and Anime, and hence AR just wasn’t up to the challenge. We’ve had quite the run over the years and I’ve loved every bit of it.

I’d like to thank you all for reading our reviews over the years, past and present. Without you guys, this would’ve never even gotten out of the starting line. I’ve been proud to have been a part of the website since the very beginning, starting from being the website designer and reviewer, going to be the Editor since our former captain had to leave his post. I’ve learned so much over the course of these years, I’ve talked to some great people and learned a lot about what it is to handle a load such as a website. I hope we’ve at least left a slight imprint in the history of anime reviewing, and I can say with all honesty and pride, that we’ve done our very best.

I also don’t want to forget about the guys who were a big part in creating the website. Delvon, our harsh but fair former Editor-in-Chief helped us mold the standard of our reviews. He handled the major connections and PR for the website, also helping with a big part of the reviews. He was really a big reason why we kept going during our start. Then there’s EmilyTear, our great web designer. She single-handedly helped us shape and mold the look of the website, with some outside help to create the initial template. It’s been a pride and an honor to work with these guys, and without them, this would’ve been nothing.

We’ve had a great run, and I can honestly say this is the best of times to just set the mantle down and say we’ve done our part.

I thank you all for taking the time and visiting the website! Hopefully you’ve learned something, and enjoyed what we did. It’s been a long road, and it’s been all for YOU, the reader.

If you want, please send me an e-mail or two to lasak@anime-reviews.info. I’ll close the Forum today, so it’ll be your only way to contact us after that. I’ll be sure to check the mailbox at some point, and I’ll answer all of your e-mails then.

With warm, and final regards,

Website Update #10 & The Future

Sunday, February 22nd, 2009

Hello everyone,

I’ve been pondering a whole lot about where the website is headed, and where the future will take it. I’ve seen very little growth over the time it’s been established since last October. The Forum hasn’t grown at all, with the exception of random users who just create an account, and a whole lot of potential spammers. This has left me in a pickle, whether there will ever be a real community, even after almost a half a year of being operational under the anime-reviews.info domain.

Also, I’ve been very slow regarding updates - partially because life’s been very hectic, and some issues with material. So part of the above problem has to be this. I feel that the Internet is full of review sites, especially regarding TV and movies. AR just wasn’t up to the challenge.

With this in mind, I’ll ponder whether to keep the site alive or not. From my point of view, it looks like a lost cause.

I hope I can come up with a solution, but as of now, Anime Reviews if on its last leigh. When the end will come, I cannot say, but one thing is for sure; after 4 long years of active and non-active existence, I figure we’ve finally gone as far as we can. After establishing a fan base, and losing it as quick as it came, we went ahead to get sponsored, in hopes of getting more exposure. This hasn’t resulted in the end I’ve seen, so I think it’s about time to call it quits.

This isn’t a definite decision, but it’s looking like this is it. I thank everyone who’s been reading the material - now and before - and I hope you got something out of it. We’ve had a great run, but this is as far as we’ll go. I wish everyone the best, and I’ll be sure to write a longer goodbye letter later.

Sincerely,

- Lasak

A New Columns & Interviews’ Section

Sunday, January 25th, 2009

Hello community!

I’ve thought about how to make the website more open and accessible to new users, who’re maybe less informed about Anime, and to expand our journalistic offerings to the Internet. So, as of today, I’ve decided to start a new section (yet to be named) in the Columns & Interviews -page, where an outside writer can have his/her essay published on our website.

The section itself doesn’t have any requirements in terms of content - you can write about anything you wish, be it Politics, Science, Anime or anything beyond. The only demands we have is that the content is well-written, original and clean. No objectionable material will be published! Please take a look at the Terms & Conditions of the website for further information about published material. I’ll review each entry myself, and based on the amount of material we get, the interval in which we’d publish new pieces. For now, it’ll be once a month.

So, if you’re interested in getting your piece published to the masses at large, please send me your entries via e-mail.
NOTE!
Not as an attachment, but as writing in the e-mail itself. All e-mails with only an attachment will be deleted and not reviewed at all, so keep that in mind.

Start writing and send me your entries! My aim is to have the first one published by Mid-February, so send them ASAP. If you have any questions about this, please direct them to the Forum, or send me an e-mail with your inquiry.

I’ll be sure to tell you more about this segment, as I get it set up and come up with a name!

Regards,

- Lasak

Website Update #8

Wednesday, January 21st, 2009

Hello people!

Yesterday was a grand day, and so is today. Not only did Barack Obama start off his Presidency, but I also added 2 new reviews today!

Yes, it was a while back that I promised a new one, but due to some difficulties on my own part and some technical stuff, I managed to add them today at last. But, as stated, I added 2 to give you one as an added bonus. They’re reviews on the great Ai Yori Aoshi, and its sequel Ai Yori Aoshi Enishi. Please check them out and give me some feedback!

No other news to report on my side. Things are going smoothly and we’re getting more and more people onto the Forums.

I also encourage you guys to register onto my Blog here, so that you can directly comment on what ever I might talk about! Makes things simpler, and a lot more interactive, I think.

More to come later!

Regards,

- Lasak

Issues - Apology

Monday, January 12th, 2009

Hello community!

I’ve had some issues with getting my reviews from my personal stash, so I haven’t been able to add the review I promised, nor work on anything new. I’ll have this solved during the weekend the very latest, but hopefully I’ll get it done before that.

Life’s been hectic, so I apologize!

We’ve had a nice amount of new people on the Forum, but the more the merrier - also we need active members who’ll contribute to the actual Forum and help me build and correct the website and its content!

2009 has been great so far, hopefully it won’t fly by as quickly as ‘08 did.

Website Update #7

Wednesday, January 7th, 2009

Happy New Year 2009 everyone!

As we step into the new year, I’ve thought a lot about where the website is headed and how it’ll develop. I have no real plans to expand the website any further in terms of new functions or ideas, but we’ll stick with the old plan and I’ll keep adding reviews as I get to them. Noting the slow and surprisingly slim development of the Forums especially, I see no reason to expand beyond my means of maintaining the entire thing, and the room we have for it. On a daily basis we have close to a 1000 unique hits, yet they seem to be only fleeding passer-bys, and we’ve yet to create a nucleus of users. I must admit, the slim selection of reviews we have so far might attribute to this in a very huge way.

I’ll be adding a new review tomorrow for you guys to enjoy, and as a hint, the name starts with a G and has 2 words in it.

No other developments to tell you guys of. I checked the survey, but it seems it had closed up a bit earlier than I expected, or had not worked at all, so I didn’t have any accessible material to review. We’ll see if I’ll conduct a new one come Summer.

The Forum grows slowly, but steadily, yet people seem to only register and not post any comments or topics. I’d love to hear what you guys think and any constructive ideas would be great to hear!

Send me e-mails and comment on any thing on the website, if you wish!

2009 regards,

- Lasak

Website Update #6 - The Year 2008

Monday, December 29th, 2008

Hi everyone!

Man, it seems like only yesterday that the year 2000 hit - and we’re already going fast towards the first decade in the new millennium.

The year 2008 has really been a year of change for us at Anime Reviews. We went over a huge overhaul, not only in terms of looks with the new template, but also through the new hosting service we acquired closer to the end of the year. We’re still a bit in the transitional phase, but soon it’ll all be better. I’ve ironed out most of the bugs and issues we had, but some might still be lurking out there. I couldn’t have been happier with the hosting package we were given, not to mention the domain with it, so I’d like to warmly thank Lunarpages for giving us the opportunity to expand and grow as a website.

Added functions and better servers helped us grow the user limits, and a new and improved Forum helped shape a new Anime Reviews’ Community - which is ever growing and remember to join in!

I’ll add more material as the year changes, so be alert for that! I’ll also be looking more into as to what you guys want from the website and its content, so I hope most of you will help me with that later on. New reviews will be added in proper intervals, but also some new Columns might be looked into, as well as possible future Interviews with people who’re in the Anime scene. The year 2009 will be even better than ‘08, if all goes well!

I sincerely wish you all a Happy New Year 2009 from all of us here at Anime Reviews, and I wish all of your New Year’s declarations will hold and come true!

With great anticipation for the coming year,

- Lasak

Website Update #5 - Merry Christmas!

Friday, December 19th, 2008

Hello people!

As Christmas is knocking on our doors, it’s time for me to deliver on what I promised. I’ll release a new review on the 25th of December, as a gift to you all from us here at Anime Reviews (hint: the series’ name starts with an N). I tried to arrange a Christmas contest of sorts, but I came up short. I’ll see what I can do about next Christmas, or possibly even earlier than that!

You might’ve noticed the Survey listed on the front page, and I’ll tell you a bit more about it. I wanted to know a bit more about the people who visit the website, regularly or not, so I figured what would the best way to do this be. I thought about just a questionaire via e-mail, but a Survey seemed so much more logical! I urge everyone to take the survey, and to help us improve the content and the website to a more targetet demographic. No, this doesn’t mean the demographic found to be the majority are the people we’ll only write to - it’ll merely help me guide the website a bit towards it, changing approaches and such to journalism and content. The reviews will stay the same, and we won’t go and just review kids’ anime series if the demographic happened to be 12-years-old.

I’ll be a bit more distant during the Christmas festivities, but please send me e-mails and join the Forum regardless! I’ll get to every issue in due time, and I’ll check my mail during Christmas too.

From all of us here at Anime Reviews: We wish you all a merry Christmas, plenty of gifts and a happy New Year 2009!

I’ll be sure to write before the year changes - my last words of the year.

Merry regards,

- Lasak

Website Update #4

Tuesday, December 9th, 2008

Hello readers!

As you might’ve noticed, during late-November and early-December, we had some issues with our Forum. Due to a glitch in the database after updating the software, the data was rendered useless and beyond my skills as a admin to fix. This was fixed by wiping the whole database, and creating a brand new one in its stead. Because of this, everyone who had registered onto the Forum had to re-register, and I’ve added all of the necessary topics in the Forum. All we need now, are more people to join in and to create a better community! Sign up today, and go also check out the new template I installed. I thought it was more modern, but still having a unique touch compared to the “normal” forum style.

I also added 2 new reviews just before December, and I’ll be adding more when we get closer to Christmas itself. I thought of organizing a Christmas Raffle or a Contest, but was inable to arrange any proper prizes. With this in mind, if anyone’s willing to help me arrange something like this, I’d love to have something for the Community to participate in and to give out some holiday spirit, in the form of an Anime-related prize or several even!

Remember to shop for your Christmas presents early! I’ve done my shopping already, so it’ll save me a ton of hassle later on. Anime DVDs never fail as gifts. ;-)

I wish everyone a great December, and Happy Holidays! As said, I’ll inform you guys more on things as we get closer to Christmas.

Christmas regards,

- Lasak
